Dunsmuir City Park

170Our city park is not what you expect to see when you hear the words "City Park." It consists of 14 acres of scenic beauty lying right next to the Upper Sacramento River among cedar, oak, and pine trees.

This setting makes our park the perfect place to hold receptions, weddings, picnics, and concerts. Or just to come and hang out and have fun.

It also provides access to some of the best trout fishing in all of northern California. There is no charge for fishing other than possessing a current license and following the rules established by California Fish and Game.

Park facilities include:
  • Picnic tables and barbecues
  • Safety-approved children's playground equipment
  • Stage
  • Amphitheater
  • ADA compliant restrooms
For information about using the park facilities for large events (25 or more participants), please contact the Dunsmuir Recreation and Parks District office at 530-235-4740.

Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens

While you're in Dunsmuir City Park, you will have the opportunity to see the work of dozens of dedicated volunteers who have developed the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens in the park.

In addition to the many beautiful native dogwoods, fragrant wild azaleas and Shasta lilies, a variety of other perennial plants and shrubs have been introduced. These include rhododendrons, hostas, ferns and Japanese maples. During the spring and summer, various annuals greet visitors with a rainbow of colors.

Every year (usually on the last weekend in June), the City Park meadow is the venue for the 'Tribute to the Trees' concert. This fundraiser for the Botanical Gardens features the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra and includes a gourmet dinner enjoyed al fresco. Check our events page for this year's dates, or contact the Dunsmuir Recreation and Parks District office at 530-235-4740 for more information.

  Dunsmuir City Ball Park
169Dunsmuir City Ball Park is the home of the Dunsmuir High School Tigers baseball and football teams. It was also the site of a demonstration of home run hitting prowess in 1924 when Babe Ruth played an exhibition game with local talent. For more information, click here for our history page.

This multi-use facility has hosted softball tournaments, circuses, Renaissance Fairs, The Kids Factory Summer Camp, and other diverse activities. (For information on the Kids Factory Family Resource Center, call 530-235-4005 or visit kidsfactory.org).

The rustic grandstands will take you back to an older time when kids (and adults) played "for the love of the game." Stop by and watch our high school teams or one of our adult amateur teams play with the same dedication.

Ball Park facilities include:
  • 4-acre multi-use field
